Deskripsi Project:

Aim: assist Indonesia to halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV.
Activities aim to prevent and limit the spread of HIV, improve the quality of life of people living with the virus and alleviate its socio-economic impacts. Australia has helped shape Indonesia's national HIV policy and reduced HIV transmission through needle exchange, methadone and safe sex programs. In Papua and West Papua Australia's HIV activities aim to increase public awareness to change risk behaviour and reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV; improve access to high-quality HIV treatment; and increase voluntary counselling and testing. Australia is also working with Indonesia to change behaviours of both men and women to prevent HIV transmission. This includes supporting efforts to reduce domestic violence, which is prevalent in Papua and West Papua. In 2009, Australian-funded activities reached almost 16,000 injecting drug users and over 80,000 prisoners providing information, counselling and referrals. Clients on methadone therapy increased by 1,000 across Java, while the number of methadone services more than doubled to almost 30 sites.
