ANU Indonesia Project Research Travel Grant

General

The Indonesia Project Research Travel Grant will assist students who plan to undertake research or are currently undertaking research for which they will benefit from travel to Indonesia.
The grant will be awarded to outstanding applicants who can demonstrate that travelling to Indonesia will contribute to their research on Indonesia.

Value

The value of the grant shall be up to $5,000.
The grant will be provided lump sum to the recipients.
The grant shall contribute towards paying for economy return airfares to - Indonesia and actual expenses related to travel, e.g. insurance, accommodation, in-country travel, passport, visa, vaccinations and other preventive medicines.
The grant can also be used to contribute to research costs, e.g.hiring facilitators, purchasing data or books. It cannot be used to purchase equipment such as computers.
Grant recipients must arrange for their own travel-related and research-related requirements.
The invoices, receipts and proof of payments related to the travel must be submitted to the Indonesia Project administrator at the conclusion of the travel.

Eligibility

The grant is open for individuals of at least 18 years of age, and are currently enrolled or about to enroll in degree programs at the honours or masters level at an eligible university in Australia*.
The grant is open to Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents.

Application
Applicants must submit all relevant documentation, including an indicative budget, by indicated deadline.
The application must be submitted to Indonesia Project at Indonesia.Project@anu.edu.au and Arianto Patunru at arianto.patunru@anu.edu.au.

Selection
Up to four grants will be awarded.
The grant will be awarded based on the recommendation of the selection committee.
The selection committee will take into account the merit of the application and the applicant’s academic record to date.
Applications that propose to undertake research on a development or public policy issue in Indonesia will be given preference in the selection process.
The grant will not be awarded if, in the opinion of the selection committee, there is no applicant of sufficient merit.
Females will be especially encouraged to submit a grant application.

Selection Committee
The members of the selection committee will be determined by the Head of the Indonesia Project, ensuring representation from areas within The Australian National University that actively conduct research on Indonesia.
Concurrent holding of grants/scholarships/awards
The travel grant may be held concurrently with other grants, scholarships and awards.

Tenure
The recipient must be enrolled and remain enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis at the honours or masters level at an approved university in Australia while the proposed travel is being undertaken.
The grant must be expensed within a year after granted.
The grant will terminate on the date on which the scholar ceases to attend the university other than for approved absences, or on an indicated date for each round of grant, whichever is earlier.

Publicity
It is anticipated that the recipients of the Indonesia Project Research Travel Grant may be requested to participate in publicity of the grant from time to time. This may include publicity in the state or territory of residence or of schooling. Recipients may be contacted for an interview and photograph. Indonesia Project may also publicise the grants by publishing the names of the recipients. Such arrangements will be made through the Indonesia Project administration.
The recipient must acknowledge the receipt of the grant in his or her research output.
We expect the recipients to present their research findings in an Indonesia Study Group seminar at ANU.
