Bali to host World Bank,
IMF annual meeting in 2018

Indonesia will host the annual meeting between the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2018, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo says.

“I am very grateful that Indonesia has been chosen to host the annual meeting in 2018," Jokowi said in a joint press conference with visiting IMF executive director Christine Lagarde on Tuesday.

The meeting will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, in October 2018, Antara news agency reported.

The selection of Indonesia as the host for the meeting reflected international confidence in the country, the President said.

Lagarde, meanwhile, explained that the decision to select Indonesia was made after a long process.

Regarding Lagarde’s visit, the President said that Lagarde came to Indonesia to attend a high level meeting between the country’s central bank, Bank Indonesia, and the IMF.

"We talked a lot about global economic issues," he said.

Lagarde’s visit to Jakarta has raised speculation that Indonesia is seeking an IMF loan to deal with the country's economic slowdown.

The government and the IMF, however, said the speculations were unfounded. (ika)(++++)
