JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Ministry of Environment and Forestry invites the community to actively participate in preventing land and forest fires by establishing Masyarakat Peduli Api (Fire Awareness Community/FAC).

Director of Forest and Land Fire Control of Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Raffles B Panjaitan, explained that FAC was formed in villages near areas that are prone to forest and land fire. 

"As of now we have FAC in 26 provinces consisted of 664 teams in villages prone to forest and land fires, both in Sumatra and Kalimantan as well as in Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Maluku. The number of FAC members are 9,963 people," explained Raffles, as quoted from the Ministry webpage, Saturday (10/7/2017).

FAC members are residents of the community who are concerned about forest and land fires and volunteer to be in the program. The Ministry is committed to train and provide technical briefing for members.

Training and technical briefing covers several aspects, namely, general description of forest and land fire control, basic preventive techniques, basic techniques to open land without burning, fire fighting basic technique, and practice on the field. The FAC members are also provided with simple fire fighting equipments.
