JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM -- Ministry of Health creates a policy in terms of giving pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) which usually is done in stages. Immunization will be conducted in two districts of West Nusa Tenggara Province, West Lombok and East Lombok, beginning in October 2017.
PCV immunization services are conducted in health care facilities such as Health Centers for Children and Mothers (Posyandu), Community Health Centers (Puskesmas), auxiliary health centers, government hospitals, private hospitals, clinics, private practices, and other health-care facilities that provide immunization services, said Head of Communications and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health Oscar Primadi in his press statement on Friday (10/6/2017).
PCV immunization is administered in 3 doses starting at 2 months old for infants along with DPT-HB-Hib 1 and OPV 2, in 3-month-old infants together with DPT-HB-Hib 2 and OPV 3, and final vaccine administered to children aged 12 months as advanced immunization.
"The vaccine is given free of charge and it is also safe as it has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and passed the test at Indonesia National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM)," said Oscar.
As many as 60 percent cases of Pneumonia is caused by the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria which can be killed by the PVC vaccine. Data from WHO showed that every minute two infants die from pneumonia world wide.
