New small geothermal project kicks off construction in North Malaku, Indonesia

A new geothermal project has been started in South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku (Malut), Indonesia. The project is located in Songa-Wayau Village, Bacan Middle East District.

All preparation for the project have been completed and the project has the necessary permits by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia.

Early construction has started and the plant will be built by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the initial phase of a planned 5 MW capacity.

The resources of the project site are estimated at up to 149 MW, but a development of only 5 MW is planned in this initial phase of development. The local government has proposed an additional 5 MW, which would up the initial development to 10 MW, but this is still under consideration.
