The Hubla tribal chief in Lembah Baliem, Jayawijaya regency, Jualianus Yuli Hisage, has urged the government to improve access to health for villagers.
He said local residents in various villages and districts did not receive adequate health care because community health centers (Puskesmas) and integrated health services posts (Posyandu) did not function properly.
“Community health centers and integrated health services posts are sometimes closed. So it depends on health workers whether they want to provide health services or not,” Julianus was quoted as saying by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
“Local residents prefer to visit local hospitals, but it turns out that hospitals offer the same services,” he went on.
He said that three of his relatives had died because community health centers were unable to provide even basic health care.
“There is no proper health care here, especially due to unclear direction in the provision of the health services by the local administration,” he said. (put)
