President Joko Widodo and vice president Jusuf Kalla are scheduled to go to Makassar, South Sulawesi to attend two big events namely the Takabonerate Island Expedition and Lovely Toraja.
The President is set to attend Lovely Toraja in December whilst vice president Jusuf Kalla is heading to Takabonerate Island Expedition in Selayar Islands regency on November 27-29.
For the latter event, Jusuf Kalla will be accompanied by several ministers to Selayar Islands. At the event, the vice president is set to sign an MoU with Sampoerna consortium which will mark the development of megaprojects related to the tourism industry such as golf course, resort, five-star hotel, international hospital and telecommunication service.
To prepare for the event, the South Sulawesi provincial administration has conducted a coordination meeting about the plan to welcome the President and vice president.
“We’ve had a meeting with the provincial administration regarding the arrival of pak JK [Jusuf Kalla] and we’re thankful that the number two person of the Indonesian Republic is coming to Selayar, this will definitely benefit Selayar regency,” said Selayar Islands regent, Muh Basli Ali.
“There are others such as a port and airport [projects] that we’re expecting pak JK to officiate, as well as several investments in fishery, agriculture and tourism sectors,” added Basli.
Takabonerate’s main event is going to celebrate the 412th anniversary of Selayar. Basli said that they are planning to give Jusuf Kalla a special traditional title at the event.
“Insya Allah [God’s willing] there’ll be a coronation of traditional title to Pak JK. We’re going to hold a meeting first with the traditional board regarding this matter,” Basli said. (asw)
