A 5.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) at 1:32 a.m. local time on Thursday at a depth of 38 kilometers.

“However, the quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. But we advise residents to remain alert of the possibility of aftershocks,” said Kupang Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) station head Sudaryono on Thursday.

The quake epicenter was located 104 kilometers southeast of East Sumba, 116 km southwest of Sabu Raija, 197 km southeast of Central Sumba and 307 km southwest of Kupang.

Sudaryono said the quake was the second to hit Sumba Island in June this year. Earlier, a 4.2 magnitude quake rocked Southwest Sumba, at 11:04 a.m. on Thursday with its epicenter 130 km southwest of Southwest Sumba regency and at a depth of 10 km.
